The Story

Before I left home, I made the following webpage to share my "rough itinerary" of where and how I would travel. This "prediction" was mostly correct, though many new adventures happened, like sailing from Fiji to Indonesia for 3 months, running the Athens marathon, and spending lots of time in Croatia exploring my roots. Also, it took nearly 2 years longer than anticipated. I returned home December 21st, 2024. Wow.

"Kelso Heads West"

I’m heading on a trip around the world! My goal is to circumnavigate westbound using as many methods of transportation as possible. Here’s the rough itinerary:
May

Ride my motorcycle from home in San Juan Capistrano, California to Anchorage, Alaska. Sell the bike.

June

Fly across the Pacific through Hawaii and Fiji to Auckland, New Zealand.
Train/Bus/Car throughout New Zealand and Australia.

July/August

Fly from Darwin, AU to Bali, Indonesia.
Ferry/train through Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos.

September

Fly to Southern India. Train to New Delhi.
Fly from New Delhi to Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

October

Drive from Dushanbe, TJ to Osh, Kyrgyzstan on the Pamir Highway.
Month long horse riding trek across Kyrgyzstan to Almaty, Kazakhstan.

November

Train West to Aktau, KZ.
Cross the Caspian sea via ferry to Baku, Azerbaijan.
Train through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey.
Explore Eastern/Central Europe via train.

December

Explore Western Europe mainly via train.

January

Board a cargo ship as a passenger to the US East Coast.
Explore the U.S. East Coast, eventually ending in Florida.

February

Buy a bicycle and ride the Southern Bike Tier back home to San Juan Capistrano, CA (~2 months).

Other information:

I'll only be documenting this trip in my journal. No plans to use social media throughout the trip.
Along the way, I'm planning to fill in the gaps using as many rare and fun modes of transportation as possible, whether they actually take me closer westbound or not. Like a cable car in NZ, sled dogs in Alaska, Zeppelin in Germany, and many more...
